
Join DarkSky Maryland & the Friends of Quiet Waters Park during International Dark Sky Week at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis
This awe-inspiring event is Sunday, April 27** from 8:30-10:00pm. On a dark new moon night, enjoy stargazing and learn about the effects of artificial light pollution, along with easy steps to save the natural sky, help wildlife—especially migrating birds, and improve human health.Led by astronomers Mark Subbarao, specializing in scientific visualization, Amanda Subbarao, and Andrew Lomax, former Deputy Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Observatory, we will take a short walk then use our eyes to:
- Identify the constellation “Leo” & report its clarity on the citizen science project at www.globeatnight.org with our cell phones
- Search for other constellations, stars and possible planets
- Explore with a red-light flashlight we will loan you
- Discover DarkSky International’s effective outdoor lighting solutions to reduce glare and skyglow (www.darksky.org)
Advance registration required as attendance is limited to 30 individuals and the park is otherwise closed. Register by going to https://fqwp.org/register-night-sky, enter your info and pay the $6 fee*** (entrance to the park will be free at the Gatehouse to those registered). You will be notified if you make the cutoff.

***In the event cloud cover or rain cancels both nights, your fee will be considered a donation to the Friends of Quiet Waters Park***
